When someone comes through the door, most dogs either get excited or get scared. Either way, the doorbell sets them off. I teach your dog that jumping does not get the affection, and I turn the door into treat time. In just a couple of weeks, the doorbell stops setting your dog off, whether it was fear or excitement.
The internet overcomplicates dog training. "I think people don't understand how easy it can be if you just have the right coaching." Your homework is 10 to 15 minutes a day, not an hour. The same rules apply no matter the breed, the age or the sex, so with two dogs you are not learning two different things. We meet every week or two, so you have time to fit it into your life.
Training starts at your house, because that's where the behaviors happen. Your dog spends 90% of its time or more at home, and facilities start the dog out distracted. From there, every skill climbs a ladder: inside the house, the backyard, the front yard, a quiet place, then a busy one. Owners get stuck when they test a dog somewhere it was never taught. "If you don't know the answers, if you've never been taught, then you're not gonna succeed." So we climb one step at a time.

I'm Andrew Lattner, owner of Good Dogz KC. I live in Gladstone, in the Northland, with my family and my own dogs. Board and train dogs live with us, not in a kennel. I do in-home dog training across the Kansas City metro: puppies, obedience, reactive dogs, aggression, and board and train.
In-home training is $500 for 3 visits, $800 for 6 visits or $1,200 for 8 visits. Board and train is $3,500 for 3 weeks or $4,500 for 4 weeks.

They can look similar. A scared dog and an excited dog both stiffen up, and they are almost always barking either way, so the bark alone does not tell you much. A dog that looks aggressive on the leash but is fine once it meets the other dog is often frustrated, not aggressive. I come to your home and assess what's actually driving the behavior.
I work one-on-one, in your home, on the exact things you deal with every day. A group class happens once a week in a room full of other dogs, which is the opposite of where your real problems live.
Your dog lives with me, my family and my own dogs for 3 or 4 weeks, not in a kennel. A 3-week program is 3 sessions at your house during the stay and 3 after your dog is home.

I use a balanced, relationship-based approach rooted in emotional regulation over pure obedience. I avoid outdated "dominance" or "alpha" framing. Dogs learn best when they understand what's expected and feel safe. Every plan is tailored to the dog in front of me.
Yes. Reactivity, aggression, resource guarding, and separation anxiety are a big part of my work. I come to your home, assess what's actually driving the behavior, and build a program around the real environment, not a sterile facility.
Training always starts in your home, then progressively moves outward as your dog is ready: home first, then your neighborhood, then public places. It's all about setting your dog up for success. I cover the whole Kansas City metro, both sides of the state line: Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee, and Lenexa in Johnson County; Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and Independence to the east; and the Northland, including Liberty, Gladstone, and Parkville.
